Christmas Appeal 2025 – Gifts of Hope

Christmas Appeal 2025

Please Give What You Can

AT the heart of this year’s Christmas Appeal is Koha, our cherished teddy bear whose name means gift in te reo Māori. Koha symbolises the warmth, generosity, and compassion your support can bring to someone in need. Christmas is meant to be a time of joy, connection, and celebration.

But for many whānau across Aotearoa, it’s a season marked by stress and hardship. With the rising cost of living and mounting financial pressures, some families face the heartbreaking reality of going without – no presents under the tree, no festive meals, and no relief from the burden of debt.

For some, Christmas is a day to treasure with loved ones. But for others, like Becs, a solo mum doing her best to get by with her young son Noah, it can be a painful reminder of what’s missing.

“The Salvation Army is there to help with everything.  With food, with advice, with real help. It’s not just random stuff. It’s meaningful. We are worth it. We were thought about.” This Christmas, The Salvation Army invites you to be part of our Give What You Can appeal – a heartfelt movement to bring joy, dignity, and hope to families in need.

Across the country, there are many more families like Becs and Noah who urgently need support. Sometimes, it’s the little things that mean the most.

Your generosity will help weave golden threads of hope back into the lives of those who need it most. You’ll be supporting our mission to care for people, transform lives, and reform society – powered by God’s love.
